On July 22, 2024, Drukair, Royal Bhutan Airlines, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the acquisition of three A320neo and two A321XLR aircraft.

The signing ceremony took place at the Farnborough Air Show and was led by CEO Mr. Tandi Wangchuk, Chief Pilot Yab Dasho Dhondup Gyaltshen and the members of Drukair board. This move is inspired by His Majesty’s noble vision for a mindfulness city.

The A321neo, part of Airbus’s A320neo Family, provides extended range, 50% noise reduction, and over 20% savings in fuel and CO₂ emissions compared to older models. The A321XLR, with a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, offers 30% lower fuel burn per seat and reduced emissions. Its Airspace cabin guarantees superior comfort and cost efficiency. These state-of-the-art aircraft align with Bhutan’s development goals, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2030.
